This was announced by the Shri Nanda Devi Rajjat Yatra Samiti in Karnaprayag on Sunday.

Dr. Rakesh Kunwar, a descendant of the King of Garhwal and the chairman of the committee, told media that several important tasks related to the changes in the Himalayan region and administrative preparations are still incomplete, due to which it is not possible to conduct the pilgrimage this time.

The Samiti has demanded that the government constitute an authority for the Nanda Devi Rajjat Yatra, similar to the one for the Kumbh Mela.

The Samiti says that this authority should not be limited only to the Raj Jat Yatra, but should also prepare plans and carry out development work for the Nanda Devi Lokjat, annual pilgrimages, and all fairs associated with Nanda Devi.

The Samiti clarified that the authority’s work will be limited to arrangements and development, and there will be no interference in religious rituals.

Samiti chairman Dr. Rakesh Kunwar said, “The pilgrimage was proposed for 2026, which has now been decided to be held in 2027. For this, the vow for the pilgrimage will be taken on the upcoming Vasant Panchami, and the date will be finalized then.”

This pilgrimage, which takes place in the high Himalayan region, is considered the longest (approximately 280 kilometers) and highest altitude (17,500 feet) religious pilgrimage in Asia. It passes through Roopkund, Juragali Pass, and near the Shila Samudra Glacier before reaching Homkund. This journey is considered symbolic of Nanda Devi’s journey from her maternal home to Kailash. This pilgrimage is traditionally held every 12 years, and the last Rajjat Yatra took place in 2014.
