Doctors at Sagar Multispeciality Hospital (SMH) in Bhopal successfully removed a 3 cm long pin stuck in the lung of a 25-year-old youth for 15 days. The doctors of the hospital have achieved this success by using a modern bronchoscope.
Dr. Anshul Jain, specialist in pulmonology services at SMH, said that the young man came to our hospital after visiting several hospitals with complaints of cough, fever and cough having bleeding. The youth had been complaining of these symptoms for the last three days.
After getting an X-ray done, it was discovered that he had pneumonia in his left lung. The hospital team also found suspicious obscurations and felt that some sharp object might be present in the lungs, which caused him fever and bleeding with cough. Dr Jain said our team counselled the youth and tried to find out as what had happened to him in the last few days.
During counselling, the youth said that he had bought a new shirt and while unpacking it he had kept the pin in his mouth. Dr. Jain added our team suspected that the pin might have gone inside. We got the youth’s CT scan and results revealed that he had pneumonia and coughing up blood was due to a heavy object in the lungs.
Dr Jain said with the help of bronchoscopes, we can see up to 3rd and 4th generation. This object was deep inside the lungs, which could have been seen in 5th generation bronchoscopes.
Dr Jain said, “This was a very complicated situation and it was difficult to decide whether to go for an open surgery or an invasive surgery. It is difficult to remove any sharp object through bronchoscopy, especially when it is embedded in the lungs.
SMH team decided that they would remove this foreign body with the help of a bronchoscope in the operating theatre. The bronchoscope revealed that there was a foreign object deep inside the young man’s lungs, which was causing bleeding in his cough.
After looking at the CT scan report, the team of doctors estimated where this object could be. They took out the pin carefully from the lobe. Due to this pin, the youth was suffering from pneumonia, cough, fever and bleeding with the cough. The youth is now completely fine, and his pneumonia has also subsided and he is now recovering.

भोपाल के युवक ने नई शर्ट की पैंकिंग खोलते समय मुंह में रखी पिन निगल ली, सागर मल्टीस्पेशलिटी हॉस्पिटल के डॉक्टरों ने कैसे बचाई जान?
प्रदेश की राजधानी में सागर मल्टीस्पेशलिटी हॉस्पिटल (SMH) में 25 साल नवयुवक के फेफड़े में फंसी 3 सेंटीमीटर लंबी पिन को निकालने का सफल काम किया है|हॉस्पिटल के डॉक्टरों ने यह काम आधुनिक ब्रोंकोस्कोप के उपयोग से यह सफलता हासिल की है । SMH के पल्मोनोलॉजी सेवाओं के विशेषज्ञ डॉ.अंशुल जैन ने बताया युवक कई अस्पतालों के बाद हमारे हॉस्पिटल में खांसी, फीवर और खांसी के साथ खून आने की शिकायत के साथ आया । युवक को पिछ्ले तीन दिन से यह शिकायत हो रही थी ।
कोई नुकीली वस्तु भी फेफड़ों में हो सकती है
एक्स-रे कराने के बाद पता लगा कि उनके बाये फेफड़े में निमोनिया है | हमारी टीम को संदिग्ध अस्पष्टता भी लगी और लगा कि कोई नुकीली वस्तु भी फेफड़ों में हो सकती है जिसकी वजह से युवक का बुखार नहीं जा रहा था । हमारी टीम ने युवक की काउंसलिंग की और जानने की कोशिश की पिछले कुछ दिनोंमें उनके साथ क्या-क्या हुआ था । काउंसलिंग के दौरान युवक ने बताया कि 15 दिन पहले युवक ने नई शर्ट की पैंकिंग खोली थी और उस वक्त पैकिंग से निकलने वाले पिन को मुंह में रखा था। डॉ. जैन ने बताया कि हमारी टीम को संदेह हुआ कि पिन अंदर न चली गई हो।
युवक का CT Scan कराया गया जिससे यह साबित हुआ कि निमोनिया और खून का खासी के साथ आना एक भारी वस्तु का फेफड़ों में होने की वजह से है। ब्रोंकोस्कोप की मदद से हम तीसरी व चौथी जनरेशन तक देख सकते है । यह वस्तु फेफड़ों के काफी अंदर थी जो 5 जनरेशन ब्रोंकोस्कोप में हो सकती।
स्थिति बहुत ही जटिल थी
उन्होंने बताया, “यह बहुत ही जटिल स्थिति थी और तय करना भी मुश्किल था कि ओपन सर्जरी की जाए या अन्य इनवेसिव सर्जरी | ब्रोंकोस्कोपी द्वारा किसी भी नुकीली चीज को हटाने में मुश्किल होती है, खासकर जब वह फेफड़ों में धंसी हो | हमारी टीम ने निर्णय लिया कि वे ऑपरेशन थियेटरमें ब्रोंकोस्कोप की मदद से इस बाहरी वस्तु को निकालेंगे । ब्रोंकोस्कोप से पता चला की युवक के फेफड़े के काफी अंदर बाहरी वस्तु है जिसकी वजह से खॉसी में खून आ रहा था ।
डॉक्टरों की टीम ने सीटी स्कैन की रिपोर्ट को देखकर अंदाजा लगाया कि यह वस्तु किस जगह हो सकती है। डॉक्टरों की टीम को 5 जनरेशन में पोस्टीरियर अप्पर लोब के क्षेत्र में सी-आर्म की मदद से ढूँढना शुरू किया और उन्हें ऊपर की तरफ 3 सेंटीमीटर की पिन मिली जिसे उन्होंने बायोप्सी फॉरसेप से पकड़ा और फिर छोड़कर फिर से नुकीली वाली जगह से पकड़ा ताकि निकलते वक्त कोई अंदरूनी जख्म ना हो और पिन को सावधानीपूर्वक बाहर निकाल लिया ।
इस पिन की वजह से युवक को निमोनिया, खांसी, फीवर और खांसी के साथ खून आ रहा था । युवक अब बिल्कुल ठीक है और अब उसका निमोनिया भी कम हो गया है और वह रिकवर कर रहा है कुछ दिन में वह फिट होकर हॉस्पिटल से डिस्चार्ज होकर घर जाएगा।
