Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav visited the ancient Khurasani Tamarind tree located within the Khurasani Kothi premises in Mandu during his visit to the town on Thursday.
Dhar Collector Shri Priyank Mishra informed him that Khurasani Tamarind trees are native to Mandu, with some dating back over 500 years. The trunk of the tree at Khurasani Kothi has an impressive diameter of 10.85 meters. Known for their dense shade, these trees are also remarkable for their ability to store up to 1.25 lakh liters of water within their trunks.
These historic trees were originally planted in the 14th century, and many in the region are between 500 and 600 years old. Mandu Tamarind has become a popular souvenir among tourists, contributing to the livelihood of several tribal families who earn income by selling it.Khurasani Tamarind is originally found in Africa, Arabia, and Madagascar.
These trees are known for their massive size and extraordinary longevity, with lifespans that can span thousands of years. In Marathi-speaking regions, the tree is referred to as Gorakhchinch (where chinch means tamarind), and it is considered sacred due to its association with Saint Gorakhnath.
मुख्यमंत्री ने मांडू में देखा खुरासानी इमली का प्राचीन वृक्ष, क्यों इतने खास हैं ये पेड़?
मुख्यमंत्री डॉ. यादव ने माण्डू में गुरुवार को खुरासानी कोठी परिसर में लगे खुरासानी इमली के प्राचीन वृक्ष को देखा। मुख्यमंत्री ने बुधवार को माण्डू में रात्रि विश्राम के बाद गुरूवार सुबह माण्डू के ऐतिहासिक एवं पुरातात्विक वैभव को देखा।
कलेक्टर धार श्री प्रियंक मिश्र ने बताया कि माण्डू में खुरासानी के वृक्ष पाए जाते हैं, जिनमें से कुछ 500 वर्ष से भी अधिक प्राचीन हैं। खुरासानी कोठी परिसर के इस वृक्ष का तना 10.85 मीटर व्यास का है। खुरासानी इमली घना छायादार पेड़ होता है। यह पेड़ अपने भीतर सवा लाख लीटर पानी जमा करके रख सकता है।
उल्लेखनीय है कि 14वीं शताब्दी में ये पेड़ लगाए गए थे। कई पेड़ यहां पांच-छ: सौ साल पुराने हैं। पर्यटक माण्डू आने की स्मृति के तौर पर माण्डू की इमली खरीदकर ले जाते हैं।
कई आदिवासी परिवारों को इसे बेचने से आय हो रही है। मूलतः यह वृक्ष अफ्रीका, अरब और मेडागास्कर पर पाया जाता है। ये पेड़ अति विशाल हैं, इसकी उम्र हज़ारों साल होती हैं। मराठी भाषी क्षेत्रों में इसे गोरखचिंच (चिंच याने इमली) कहकर सन्त गोरखनाथ से इसका पवित्र सम्बन्ध जोड़ा जाता है।
