Teacher’s Day 2024: Even the most prestigious private schools pale in comparison to the Government Primary School Motimahal, a once-obscure institution that has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past six years. This metamorphosis is the result of the tireless efforts of a dedicated teacher, Dinesh Chakankar, and a committed social worker, Mrs. Anjali Gupta Batra.
Today, this school boasts smart classrooms and excels in yoga practice, catching the attention of onlookers. The transformation stands as a testament to how a community’s collective efforts can create a unique and inspiring example for society.
The Beginning of an Inspiring Journey: Located in Khallasipura Shinde’s Chhavani Colony of Gwalior city, the Government Primary School Motimahal’s journey of transformation began in the 2017-18 academic year when Dinesh Chakankar, who also serves as the District Yoga Incharge, was posted there. At that time, the school operated out of a single, small room.
Recognizing the school’s potential for improvement, Chakankar partnered with social worker Anjali Gupta Batra to revitalize the institution. They started by arranging basic facilities, often using their own resources, to create a more conducive learning environment.
Community and Government Support: As the school’s reputation began to grow, so did support from the community and local government officials. Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar, along with other city social workers, took notice of the dedication of the teachers and the enthusiasm of the students.
Impressed by their commitment, Minister Tomar facilitated the construction of an additional room, a large hall for group activities, and a separate toilet for girls through various state government schemes. The entire school building was also given a fresh coat of paint, transforming its appearance.
Creation of a Smart Classroom and Enhanced Facilities: Anjali Gupta Batra played a pivotal role in further enhancing the school’s facilities. At her initiative, a local social worker provided financial assistance to build a smart classroom as a gesture on his birthday. Together, Batra and Chakankar collected furniture and essential equipment for the smart classroom. Additionally, Mrs. Batra took the initiative to establish a library and a display wall where children’s creative works are proudly showcased.
Integrating Yoga into Daily School Life: Government Primary School Motimahal has set a benchmark for other schools in the district, particularly with its emphasis on yoga and holistic development. Every day, the students practice Pranayama and various yoga asanas, integrating yoga into their daily routine.
The practice sessions are conducted in a fun and engaging manner, ensuring active participation from all children. The day begins with prayers, and students share a communal meal after reciting the Bhojan Mantra, fostering a sense of unity and discipline.
Focus on Motivation and Character Building: To create a positive and motivating learning environment, the school conducts daily motivational programs. Reflecting on the journey, Chakankar recalls that his primary focus, six years ago, was to cultivate an interest in yoga and sports among the children. This initiative has not only improved their concentration but has also motivated them to excel academically.
A large LED screen has been installed in the school to facilitate these motivational sessions. Every day, students are introduced to the life stories of great personalities, inspiring them to emulate these virtues. Remarkably, the teachers themselves cover the cost of the internet needed for these programs, highlighting their dedication to the students’ growth.
A Beacon of Hope and Progress: The transformation of Government Primary School Motimahal stands as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the power of community involvement, dedication, and innovative thinking. The efforts of Dinesh Chakankar and Mrs. Anjali Gupta Batra have not only changed the physical landscape of the school but have also created an environment that nurtures young minds in knowledge, discipline, and character.
Their collaborative efforts offer a compelling model for other schools and communities to follow, proving that change is possible with a shared vision and collective action.
