The fifth and final day of the Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Arts & Science of Effective Teaching: Strategies and Methods”, jointly organized by the Electronics & ICT Academy, IIT Guwahati, and The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS), brought into focus one of the most relevant and timely themes in higher education today — NAAC’s New Reforms 2024.
The session was expertly conducted by Dr. Remya B, Associate Professor & Director, IQAC, Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru, an experienced academic and quality assurance expert. Dr. Remya provided an in-depth analysis of the latest accreditation reforms by NAAC, specifically the shift to the Binary Accreditation Framework, which replaces traditional multi-grade rankings with a clear “Accredited” or “Not Accredited” outcome. This new structure aims to encourage wider participation from higher education institutions, especially those hesitant to undergo grading.
Dr. Remya also discussed the visionary Radhakrishnan Committee Recommendations (Nov 2023), which advocated for a simplified, transparent, and improvement-oriented accreditation system that emphasizes institutional self-reflection and student-centric outcomes.
A significant part of the session addressed how these reforms align with Outcome-Based Education (OBE), shifting the focus from inputs to measurable student learning. Dr. Remya guided participants through the three core components of accreditation:
· Input Attributes: curriculum design, faculty resources, infrastructure and financial resources & management.
· Process Attributes: teaching-learning processes, governance & administration, and extended curricular engagements.
· Outcome Attributes: student outcomes, research and innovation outcomes, employability, and sustainability outcomes.
The day concluded with the Valedictory Ceremony, where Dr. Shivani Basu Dubey presented the FDP report. This was followed by virtual remarks from Prof. Gaurav Trivedi, Principal Investigator of the E&ICT Academy, IIT Guwahati, and an address by Dr. Fr. John P J, Principal of BSSS. Certificates were distributed to participants, and a formal vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Lila Simon.
The FDP successfully enriched faculty with progressive teaching strategies and a comprehensive understanding of accreditation reforms, reinforcing their role in shaping high-quality, student-centered education.
