Most of the famous temples of Mahadev, the God of Gods, are situated in snowy areas or in caves on high hills. The surprising thing is that devotees reach there looking for them. One such ancient place of Lord Shiva is found in a cave in the dense forests of Satpura in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh. This place is famous by the name of Bijagarh Mahadev. Where nature itself honours the Lord throughout the year.
This place is on a high hill in Bhagwanpura tehsil, about 37 km from the Khargone district headquarters. It is said that about 200 years ago people were unaware of this wonderful place, but, God appeared in the dream of a person of Darbar Samaj and guided him here. Today, not only do devotees from Khargone visit, but a large number also come from neighboring districts, including Maharashtra, to seek the blessings of Baba.
The temple’s sevadar Mangilal Patidar says that this place is hundreds of years old. I don’t know who established the Shivling, but I have heard that God appeared in the dream of Amar Singh Mandloi’s grandfather from Darbar Samaj, who lives in Raibidpura. Following this vision, he discovered this sacred site. Here, three Shivlings were already established in a cave about 6 feet high, one was established later.
It is believed that God is present here in person. Therefore, whatever wish is asked by the devotees, it is definitely fulfilled. 76-year-old Jhawar Singh, a resident of Shikhandi village, tells that his left leg was broken in an accident. Doctors had said that it will join but will not work. Then his brother took him on his shoulders and brought him to Baba’s shelter and with Baba’s blessings, his leg joined without surgery. Today he himself climbs the mountain and comes for regular darshan.
Devotees Ramit Sagaur, Sumit Sagaur and Anita Bai who came for darshan from Khargone say that after coming here one feels very relaxed. One gets positive energy. This entire area is surrounded by trees, plants and mountains. A natural waterfall also flows during the rainy season. The cave here is just like Amarnath, therefore the temple is also famous as MP’s Amarnath. There, Shivling is formed from snow. Whereas, here nature has also cut the rock and given it a shape like Amarnath.
One can easily reach Bijagarh village via Jalalabad by crossing the Ghat section of a high hill. After this, one has to climb stairs to reach this cave located at a height of about 300 meters from Munna Baba’s ashram. From here, one has to climb down about 15 stairs. In the cave in front, one will have darshan of Bijagarh Mahadev in the form of Amarnath. Here you will be able to see the Shivling being anointed drop by drop by nature throughout the year.
