Amity University Madhya Pradesh celebrated National Science Day with great enthusiasm on the 27th and 28th of February, commemorating the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman. The event was organized under the aegis of the National Science and Technology Council, New Delhi and the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, Bhopal.
The event took place under the guidance of Lt. Gen. V.K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd.), Pro-Chancellor of Amity University, along with Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Tomar and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research) Prof. (Dr.) M.P. Kaushik.
During the inaugural address, officiating Vice Chancellor Professor R.S. Tomar emphasized the significance of science in India since ancient times. He highlighted that sages and scholars in the Ramayana era practiced scientific methods, achieving outcomes that contributed to human welfare. He noted that India’s knowledge tradition, rooted in Vedic wisdom, is being revived in contemporary times.
Pro-Chancellor Lieutenant General V.K. Sharma (Retd.) delivered an inspiring speech, stating, “Science is the backbone of any progressive nation. Today’s youth should channel their energy and knowledge toward solving real-world problems.” He recalled that during British rule, the nomination of an Indian, Sir C.V. Raman, for the Nobel Prize was a moment of great pride for every Indian.
Expressing concern over the awareness levels among current researchers, he pointed out that many scholars are not fully conscious of their own research. He also highlighted the environmental neglect in the name of development and warned that pollution is adversely affecting human health. He urged researchers to focus on this critical issue to ensure a better future for the coming generations.
Stressing the importance of scientific research and innovation, he stated that Amity University is committed to fostering scientific thinking and nurturing a spirit of innovation among students. He underlined the crucial role of research and development in the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat‘ and motivated students to actively participate in scientific exploration.
He emphasized that National Science Day aims to empower Indian youth for global leadership in science and innovation, inspiring the younger generation toward scientific progress and contributing to India’s transformation into a technologically advanced nation.
Addressing the students, chief guest Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Shukla Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, emphasized the need for scientific curiosity and innovation in research, stating, “Science is not just about theories and formulas, it is about questioning the unknown and finding answers that can change the world. Young minds must focus on research that has a meaningful impact on society.”
Keynote speaker Prof. Karmveer Arya, Professor ABV-IIITM, Gwalior, in his address, highlighted the role of emerging technologies in shaping the future. He stated that machine learning has not only become a hub for innovation but also serves as a crucial tool for cybersecurity. Explaining the fundamental principles of machine learning, he elaborated on how this technology helps in strengthening data security.
The Valedictory Day featuring distinguished speakers and esteemed guests Dr. Ram Dhakad, Scientist G & Head of Biotechnology at DRDE Gwalior, and Dr. Paban Dash, Associate Director at DRDE Gwalior, shared their valuable insights on scientific advancements.
Professor (Dr.) M.P. Kaushik, Pro Vice Chancellor (Research), emphasized the importance of honesty and integrity in research. He stated that every research work should be documented in such a way that no one else can claim it. Innovation and research are constantly happening around us, and science forms the foundation of our daily lives.
Science not only plays a crucial role in improving the quality of life but also ensures the active participation of youth in building a “Developed India.” Curiosity and questions like “Why,” “How,” and “What” lead to new ideas and research, ultimately bringing positive change to society.
The Chief Guest, Professor Rajkumar Acharya, Vice Chancellor of Jiwaji University, shared his thoughts on the National Education Policy 2020. He said that the revelation of knowledge itself is science. He also mentioned that when the boundaries of science end, spirituality begins. He urged everyone to contribute to re-establishing India at the global level and making it a “Vishwaguru” (world leader).
The Guest of Honor, Professor (Dr.) Alok Sharma, Director of IITTM, Gwalior, spoke about India’s rich knowledge traditions and encouraged students and researchers to focus on innovation and research.
A significant highlight of the event was the release of the e-book of NSD 2025.
The much-awaited prize distribution was conducted by the Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research), recognizing the outstanding contributions of participants.
Finally, Prof. (Dr.) Pankaj Kumar Mishra extended a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and organizers for making the event a resounding success.
