18 people died in a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night. These include 14 women and 3 children. More than 25 people are injured. Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP) has confirmed the deaths.
The accident took place between platform numbers 13, 14 and 15. Crowds started gathering at the station from 4 pm to go to Maha Kumbh. At around 8:30 pm, 3 trains going to Prayagraj got delayed, due to which the crowd swelled and a stampede occurred. Some eyewitnesses have told the reason for the stampede.
An eyewitness Hiralal Mahato said, “When it was announced that the train coming to platform number 12 would come to platform 16, after that people started coming from both sides. In such a situation a stampede occurred.”
He said, “People were injured on the bridge itself. Some people were taken to the hospital. There was no one to control the crowd. The administration reached here after an hour. Now the place has been swept and cleaned. But, when the stampede happened, no one was here.”
Another eyewitness Ravi said, “I was here only. The stampede happened around 9:30. When the people on platform number 13 saw the trains standing on platform number 14 and 15, they all came towards this side. The crowd was so huge that it could not be controlled.”
Eyewitnesses said that there was so much crowd at the station that there was no place to put your feet. People were crammed in the train. Only a few policemen were seen. The policemen were telling the people that if you want to save your life, then go back. Your money will be refunded. Save your life.
Pramod Chaurasia, who was going to Prayagraj, said that I had a sleeper ticket of Purushottam Express. But there was so much crowd that even those with confirmed tickets were not able to enter the compartment. There was so much pushing and shoving that we somehow managed to get out of the crowd.
Eyewitness Dharmendra Singh said that I was also going to Prayagraj. Two trains were already running late, some were cancelled. That is why there was a huge crowd at the station. I saw so much crowd at this station for the first time in my life. I myself saw six-seven women being carried on stretchers.
नई दिल्ली रेलवे स्टेशन पर शनिवार रात मची भगदड़ में 18 लोगों की मौत हो गई। इनमें 14 महिलाएं और 3 बच्चे शामिल हैं। 25 से ज्यादा लोग घायल हैं। लोक नायक जय प्रकाश अस्पताल (एलएनजेपी) ने मौतों की पुष्टि की है।
हादसा प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर 13, 14 और 15 के बीच हुआ। महाकुंभ में जाने के लिए शाम 4 बजे से ही स्टेशन पर भीड़ जुटनी शुरू हो गई थी। रात करीब 8:30 बजे प्रयागराज जाने वाली 3 ट्रेनें लेट हो गईं, जिससे भीड़ बढ़ गई और भगदड़ मच गई। कुछ प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों ने भगदड़ की वजह बताई है।
एक प्रत्यक्षदर्शी हीरालाल महतो ने बताया, “जब यह घोषणा हुई कि प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर 12 पर आने वाली ट्रेन प्लेटफॉर्म 16 पर आएगी, उसके बाद दोनों तरफ से लोग आने लगे। ऐसे में भगदड़ मच गई।” उन्होंने कहा, “पुल पर ही लोग घायल हो गए थे। कुछ लोगों को अस्पताल ले जाया गया। भीड़ को नियंत्रित करने वाला कोई नहीं था। प्रशासन एक घंटे बाद यहां पहुंचा। अब इस जगह को साफ-सुथरा कर दिया गया है। लेकिन, जब भगदड़ मची, तब यहां कोई नहीं था।”
एक अन्य प्रत्यक्षदर्शी रवि ने कहा, “मैं यहीं था। भगदड़ करीब साढ़े नौ बजे हुई। जब प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर 13 पर मौजूद लोगों ने प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर 14 और 15 पर खड़ी ट्रेनों को देखा, तो वे सभी इस तरफ आ गए। भीड़ इतनी ज्यादा थी कि उसे नियंत्रित नहीं किया जा सका।”
प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों ने बताया कि स्टेशन पर इतनी भीड़ थी कि पैर रखने की जगह नहीं थी। ट्रेन में लोग ठूंस-ठूंस कर भरे हुए थे। इक्का-दुक्का पुलिसकर्मी ही नजर आए। पुलिसकर्मी लोगों से कह रहे थे कि जान बचानी है, तो वापस चले जाओ। तुम्हारा पैसा वापस कर दिया जाएगा। अपनी जान बचाओ।
प्रयागराज जा रहे प्रमोद चौरसिया ने बताया कि मेरे पास पुरुषोत्तम एक्सप्रेस का स्लीपर टिकट था। लेकिन इतनी भीड़ थी कि कन्फर्म टिकट वाले भी डिब्बे में नहीं जा पा रहे थे। इतनी धक्का-मुक्की हो रही थी कि हम किसी तरह भीड़ से बाहर निकल पाए।
प्रत्यक्षदर्शी धर्मेंद्र सिंह ने बताया कि मैं भी प्रयागराज जा रहा था। दो ट्रेनें पहले से ही देरी से चल रही थीं, कुछ रद्द थीं। इसलिए स्टेशन पर काफी भीड़ थी। मैंने अपने जीवन में पहली बार इस स्टेशन पर इतनी भीड़ देखी। मैंने खुद छह-सात महिलाओं को स्ट्रेचर पर ले जाते देखा।
