PM meets the National Security Advisor of USA, Mr. Michael Waltz at Blair House in Washington DC, USA on February 13, 2025.
PM Modi America visit: US President Donald Trump has announced to impose reciprocal tariff on all countries including India 2 hours before meeting PM Modi. Reciprocal tariff means that whatever tariff a country imposes on American goods, America will also impose the same tariff on the goods of that country.
Trump signed the new tariff policy related to this on Thursday night (12:30 am Indian time). Trump has just given information on which countries these tariffs will be imposed.
Trump said we will also impose tariff on countries which impose tariff on America. Neither less nor more. India has higher tariff than almost all countries.
Trump said India is at the top in terms of imposing tariffs. There are some smaller countries that impose even higher tariffs, but India’s tariff is very high. I remember when Harley Davidson was not able to sell its motorbikes in India, because the tax in India was very high, the tariff was very high, and Harley was forced to stop manufacturing. I think they had to build a factory in India to avoid paying the tariffs, said Trump.
When asked if the prices of things will increase, Trump said, ‘Not necessarily.’ He expressed hope that jobs will increase, although prices may increase a little for some time.
Trump also said that interest rates are going to go down. Value Added Tax (VAT) will also be considered as tariff.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, during PM Modi’s US visit, America can send back illegal immigrant Indians through a second flight. This flight is expected to reach Amritsar on February 15. At present, no official statement has been issued regarding this. The first flight came on February 5. In this, 104 illegal Indian immigrants were sent to India.
