PM Modi was accorded warm welcome by the Indian Diaspora on arriving in America.
Regarding this meeting, PM Modi wrote – During the meeting, congratulated Tulsi Gabbard on her appointment. Talked on many issues related to better India-US relations, which she has always been a supporter of.
PM Modi was on a tour of France before reaching the US. Here he co-chaired the AI Summit with the French President and talked on many bilateral issues. Modi will hold bilateral talks with US President Donald Trump today. Apart from this, he will also meet many business leaders and people of the Indian community.
This is PM Modi’s first visit to America after Trump became President again. Both the countries can sign many agreements to strengthen strategic and economic partnership.
Since 2014, Modi has met Barack Obama, Donald Trump in his previous tenure and Joe Biden. Now after Trump became President again, an important meeting will be held between the two leaders at the White House. Here PM Modi is going to discuss many important issues with Trump.
America is sending back illegal immigrants including Indian citizens. India has already made it clear that it is ready to take back its citizens. However, the way Indian citizens were sent in handcuffs has sparked controversy in India. PM Modi is likely to discuss this subject with Trump so that in future Indian citizens can be sent back in a respectable manner.
The Trump administration has imposed heavy tariffs on many countries, but India has been exempted from it so far. Tariffs and trade duties are likely to be discussed in this visit. The US is India’s largest trading partner. The US’s share in India-US trade is 10.73%. Agreements can be made in this visit to further strengthen trade relations.
India is eyeing a deal to buy P-8I surveillance aircraft from the US. This deal will strengthen India’s security and defense capabilities. There will also be a discussion between the two leaders about the Indo-Pacific strategy and QUAD partnership.
There may be talks on improving the H-1B visa policy for Indian IT professionals. There will also be a discussion on improving the condition of Indian immigrants in the US.
The India-Eastern Europe Economic Corridor project will help in boosting trade relations between Europe and Asia. India and America can further strengthen mutual cooperation regarding this corridor. This visit is being seen as the beginning of a new era in India-US relations.
According to media reports, Modi’s delegation will attend a total of 6 meetings. Modi’s last meeting will be held on Thursday evening at 4 pm (Friday night 2:30 pm according to Indian time). After this Modi will have dinner with the US President Trump.
Modi and Trump can also talk to the media at the White House. Modi’s visit to America is happening at a time when the city is in the grip of cold due to snowfall and hail. He will stay in the President Guest House i.e. the luxurious Blair House. It is right in front of the White House. World leaders stay in this guest house.
