
There was a massive explosion in the army’s ordanace factory in Bhandara district, Maharashtra on Friday morning. Five people are feared dead in the accident.
The reasons for the blast are not known. The sound of the blast was heard up to 5 kilometers away. The smoke rising in the sky was also visible from several kilometers away.
Bhandara Collector Sanjay Kolte said that the explosion took place around 10:30 am. The roof has collapsed due to the explosion, which is being removed with the help of JCB.
12 people are feared to be trapped under it. 2 people have been evacuated. Rescue operation is underway. The roof is being removed with the help of JCB.
According to official sources, the explosion took place in the LTP (Long Term Planning) section of the factory located in Jawahar Nagar area. At the time of the explosion, 14 employees were working in the section, out of which three were rescued alive and one died.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that 13-14 people are reported to be trapped under the collapsed roof in the accident. One has died, while 5 people have been rescued. The police said that one person has died and the search for 10 people is ongoing.
The District Collector and Superintendent of Police are at the scene and all kinds of assistance are being provided.
SDRF and Nagpur Municipal Corporation teams have also been called for rescue operations. The district administration is involved in the rescue operations in coordination with the defense forces. Teams have also been kept ready for medical assistance.
