The body of one of the nine workers trapped in a flooded coal mine in Umrangso area of Dima Hasao district of Assam has been found. It is feared that three of the trapped workers have died.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has informed about this on social media platform X.
A joint team of Assam Rifles, NDRF and SDRF is engaged in the rescue operation. Rescue workers are continuously searching for the workers.
Earlier, Deputy Commandant of NDRF First Battalion N Tiwari told media that the operation was stopped on Tuesday evening but it started again on Wednesday morning.
These workers had gone to extract coal from a coal mine in Umrangso area of Dima Hasao district of Assam at around 8 am on Monday.
To save these workers, NDRF rescue workers went inside the mine five times at different times on Tuesday but did not achieve any success.
Meanwhile, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday that a person has been arrested after nine workers were trapped inside the coal mine in Dima Hasao district, which “appears to be illegal”.
He also said a case was registered in connection with the incident that occurred on Monday (January 6, 2025) in the Umrangso area.
