Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series: IND vs. AUS: After India’s defeat in the Sydney Test, coach Gautam Gambhir spoke to the media and said that this is the defeat of the entire team. Gambhir has also given his opinion on the performance of Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
In the press conference, Gambhir said after Team India’s defeat, “My job is to be honest towards my work and also towards all the players, it is not that I give priority to only some players, but my job is to look at every player with an equal perspective, whether he is making his debut or one who has played 100 Test matches, it is my job to look at everyone equally.”
When Gambhir was asked about the future of Kohli-Rohit in India’s Test team, he said, “It all depends on their ‘hunger’ to score runs. Gambhir further said about the players of the Indian team, “Every player here knows what they lack. All the players are honest towards themselves. I consider myself lucky that I am working with such a team. The players know how much hunger they have and how much the team will benefit from it. They are not going to back down from taking a decision in the interest of the team.”
On Rohit not playing the last Test match, Gambhir also said, “When a captain takes such a decision, I don’t think it is bad. I think everyone should put the team first and Rohit did the same.”
In his statement, Gambhir said on India’s defeat, “We could have won the series. We had won the first Test match, if we had won the last session of the Melbourne Test, the series would have been 1-1. You can also see in Sydney, we had chances to win this match as well. Our batting did not work in the second innings and we lost there, but I will not blame anyone here. This is a team game and we have lost as a team.”
Gambhir praised Siraj and Bumrah and said, “Both the bowlers bowled well throughout the series, I have never seen such bowling in Indian cricket till date. Siraj has also supported Bumrah equally. What can I say about Bumrah. He did everything that a great bowler does, our bowlers bowled brilliantly throughout this series, this series has been memorable for Bumrah.”
Gambhir also said that players should definitely go and play domestic cricket. Gambhir said, ‘I always want that everyone should play domestic cricket with the red ball.’
India’s next Test series will be a 5-match series in England. The selectors now have the challenge of deciding whether to give experienced players like Kohli and Rohit a chance for a longer period or not.
Australia won the series 3-1. However, when fast bowler Prasidh Krishna bowled well and took three wickets, the Indian team’s hopes also increased. But, Australia’s batsmen showed patience and kept their hold strong in the match. Australia won this series 3-1.
