Many world leaders have paid their homage to Manmohan Singh.
A statement issued by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “The United States expresses its heartfelt condolences to the people of India on the death of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.”
“Dr. Singh was one of the biggest supporters of the US-India strategic partnership and what the two countries have achieved together over the last two decades is due to his work.”
Blinken said, “His leadership in advancing the US-India civil nuclear deal opened the door to major investment in the potential of relations between the US and India. Domestically, Dr. Singh will be remembered for his economic reforms, which accelerated India’s rapid economic growth.”
The statement credited Manmohan Singh for bringing the US and India closer and said, “We mourn Dr. Singh’s death and will always remember his commitment to bringing India and the US closer.”
Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov said that the passing away of Singh is a moment of poignant sorrow and grief for India and Russia.
He wrote on X, “It is moment of poignant sorrow and grief for India and for Russia. Dr Manmohan Singh’s contribution to our bilateral ties was immeasurable. His suave demeanor was always endearing as unquestionable was his expertise as an economist and his commitment to the progress of India.”
Former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai expressed his condolences in a post on X, saying India has lost one of its brightest sons.
He wrote, “Dr. Manmohan Singh was a staunch ally and friend of the people of Afghanistan. I mourn his death and offer my deepest condolences to his family, the government and the people of India.”
Karzai also posted a photo of his meeting with Manmohan Singh.
Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed also paid tribute, calling him a great friend of Maldives.
He wrote on X, “Saddened to hear of Manmohan Singh’s death. I always enjoyed working with him and he was a generous father figure. He was a good friend of Maldives.”
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday night at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. His mortal remains have been brought to his residence in Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Union Ministers and other prominent leaders have paid tribute to him.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, KC Venugopal and many other Congress leaders reached his residence at night.
KC Venugopal has informed on X that Congress has postponed all its programs for the next seven days.
Congress was going to hold a ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhaan’ rally in Belgaum, Karnataka on Friday.
Singh’s last rites will be performed on Saturday.
