Indore: With the festive spirit of Diwali often accompanied by firecrackers and diyas, incidents of skin burns become all too common. To tackle this issue, the NGO Create Stories hosted a webinar featuring beauty expert Seema Soni, who offered valuable insights on preventing burns and caring for the skin during the festival.
Immediate Relief for Burns
Seema Soni emphasized the importance of first rinsing the affected area with cold water if a burn occurs. This helps alleviate pain and reduces irritation. Following this, applying aloe vera gel—or a mixture of aloe vera and camphor—provides cooling relief and accelerates healing. Aloe vera is particularly effective in soothing pain and restoring skin health.
Coconut and Flaxseed Oils
Easily found in most homes, coconut oil and flaxseed oil (also known as flax oil or linseed oil) are also beneficial for treating burns. These oils can be applied directly to the affected area or mixed with camphor for enhanced cooling effects, helping the skin heal more rapidly.
Care for Eyes and Hair
In the webinar, Soni also advised on caring for eyes and hair during firework displays. If sparks or dust enter the eyes, it is crucial to rinse them with cold water immediately and use eye drops afterward. In cases of severe discomfort, consulting a doctor is essential. For hair that may catch fire, she recommended trimming the damaged strands promptly and applying a deep conditioning mask to nourish and repair the hair.
Emphasizing Caution and Medical Attention
Soni urged attendees to exercise special caution during Diwali celebrations. Both children and adults should take necessary precautions when handling firecrackers to avoid accidents. She stressed the importance of combining home remedies with professional medical advice to ensure appropriate treatment in the event of serious injuries.
As Diwali approaches, following these expert recommendations can help everyone celebrate safely and enjoy the festivities with peace of mind.
