The Maharashtra Sikh Association (MSA) has expressed serious concerns regarding the upcoming film “Emergency,” directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut. Reports suggest that the film features content that is highly offensive and derogatory towards the Sikh community. The MSA claims that the portrayal of Sikh characters and the distortion of historical events within the film are not only inaccurate but also deeply hurtful to Sikhs around the world.
The Sikh community is grounded in values of justice, equality, and truth. The MSA emphasizes that any misrepresentation of this history or disrespect towards their culture is an affront to the community and the cherished principles of truth and respect.
In response to these issues, the MSA has called on the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to urgently review and reconsider the film’s release. “We urge the board to ensure that films promoting negative stereotypes and distorting historical facts do not receive certification,” the MSA stated.
Additionally, the MSA is calling for a boycott of the film from the Sikh community in Maharashtra and across the nation, as well as from all advocates for justice and truth. “Supporting platforms that disseminate harmful content against our faith is unacceptable,” the MSA declared.
The association is prepared to explore all legal options to protect the dignity of the Sikh community. The MSA further stated, “While we recognize the importance of freedom of expression, it is essential that this freedom is exercised responsibly, particularly regarding sensitive historical and religious topics. Filmmakers must approach these subjects with care and integrity to avoid causing harm or inciting negative sentiments.”
Should the authorities not take appropriate action, the MSA will consider all legal avenues to safeguard the dignity of their community and prevent harmful content from causing division.
The MSA urges all Sikh organizations, community leaders, and members to unite in this appeal, sending a clear message that the Sikh community will not tolerate attempts to defame their faith or misrepresent their history.
